Summary

Kate comes into find George (not paying any attention to as usual) reading a travel guide to New York. Kate tries a fail attempt to get his attention that results in Kate climbing across the table and grabbing the book out of George hands.  Kate tells George about her weekend with her friend “Eve Adams”.  Kate tells George that Eve is in New York doing a revival of “Anything Went” on Broadway.  Eve is Second lead in the musical.  Kate reveals to George that Eve and she acted in Musical Theater while in collage until they both went their separate ways. Eve is coming by to give them two “Annie Oakleys” (slang of free tickets).  Eve is the understudy for Lauren Bacchanel.  Apparently, George thinks Lauren is too old for the leading role.  Kate asks George would he like to join her tonight in seeing the play.  George says yes.  Kate apologizes for not having enough tickets for Martha to join them.  George tells her that Martha has her Toxicology class tonight.  Eve Adams comes in and, Kate introduces her to George. Eve gives Kate the tickets.  Eve and Kate both went to Snoggrass collage together.  George asks Eve how the show is doing.  Eve tells George that they have had pretty good luck out of town in Philly.  The shows total cost is 4 million to produce.  Lauren put up half of the money and the other half was put up by “Angels” (slang for investors or backers) to finance the show.  Eve tells them that the cast haven’t received their share of the money because they agreed to wait so that Lauren could produce the show.  George asks how Lauren is to work with. Eve tells him that she is a pro and she knows what she wants when she wants it. George tells Kate that Lauren is nickname “The Iron Stage Mother”.  They go over the complicated use of the money that goes into producing the show using a point system.  Eve leaves and heads out to return to the theater.  That night, Kate and George attend the opening night of “Anything Went”.  Afterwards they head to the after party at Sardis.  Where they wait for the reviews to come in, the show does extremely well amongst the reviewers.  Eve’s performance eclipses that of Lauren.  Eve goes over to congratulate Lauren. But, Lauren is in a Bitchy mood asking George, Kate and Eve to move out of her way.  George starts to mess with Lauren (due to fact that she insulted him earlier that night and once again is being rude to him and his friends.) comes in front of her blocking her from leaving.  George insults her in his own way and then lets her by.  Kate tells him that he has a “Nasty streak in him” in which he replies “Does it show?” and laughs.  The day Kate comes in to work only to receive a call from Eve about “Anything Went”. Eve tells Kate that the show is going to close because the Lead (Lauren) is missing.

They arrive at theatre; Where Eve is in the middle of rehearsals. Since Lauren is missing in action Eve is made the Lead.  Eve runs over and tells Kate and George his good news. Eve asks them is they are going to come back tonight see her perform. Kate and George tells her no because they have work to finish up but they will be there in sprit.  The next day, George reads to Kate about the reviews for Eve performance.  Kate receives a call from Eve saying that they know what happen to Lauren she was kidnapped.  They arrive at the theatre where Eve tells them that Pop Bespeckled found a ransom note in Lauren’s dressing room.  George asks where the note is; they walk over to Capt. Greco.  He shows them the note.  Capt. Greco shows them where they found the note was left.  In Lauren’s dressing room Kate or (Katherine, in whom Eve calls her) could not figure out why the note was left there.  Kate tells them that it was impossible for Lauren to be kidnapped from her dressing room because she wasn’t there that night. Capt. Greco figures that it was left there so someone could find it. But, pops say that no one could come in this without him knowing it because of his mirror.  Pop and George leaves to check the mirror out.  Pop tells George that no one can come in or out without him seeing them.  That is, until George notice a prop exit door that obstructs pop’s view. George talks with a stage hand about the door prop.  The stagehand tells George that he places the prop once before the 1st act and in the middle of the 2nd act. George tells Pops that someone could use the exit door without him seeing it.  They return to the dressing room. Kate wants to set up a monitor in the dressing room. George suggests setting the monitor on the answering machine. George presses the answer machine.  The answer machine has record Lauren being kidnapped. They continue to play it only to find that Eve is was involved with the Kidnapping.

The next day Kate comes into the office.  George is irate about what the newspapers are saying about eve.  Kate is almost certain that Eve had nothing to do with it. Capt. Greco comes in with Lauren’s answering machine the kidnappers left a message on there.  Capt. Greco tells them that the message came in about 45 minutes ago. Capt. Greco leaves the room; George plays “Devil Advocate “saying that Pops view was blocked for 20 minutes.  George proposes that Lauren came in at this time and went into her dressing room where she was ambushed by two men by Eve.  All while Pops view was blocked.  Kate is skeptical about this.  She believes that Eve is not capable of during this. George tells her that Eve probably had change because of her stardom.  Sgt. Abruzzi walks in to the office (nervous because he has a secret attraction towards Kate) and gives her a cassette tape. Kate and George listen to the tape. It is a series of dial tones. Kate brings up “The problem of the Passing Parade” In which they used dial tone to figure the whereabouts of Steve Stringbean. Kate believes it is the same concept with dial tones on the tape.  George starts to decipher the dial tones by matching them on the phone.  Capt. Greco comes in, Kate asks him about Eve.  He tells that Eve is still sticking to her story and He does not believe Eve because she has too much evidence against.  Capt. Greco leaves the room.  Kate walks over to George to find that George has created a number pattern using the dial tones off the answering machine.  They continue to look for a pattern within the numbers.  Capt. Grecco returns with Lauren’s lucky bracelet. He goes on to tell them that it was found in Eve’s dressing room and He plans to arrest Eve after her evening performance.

The Next Day George makes a graph to figure out possible combinations from the numbers on the board.  They finally come up with 3 possible choices Alex, Cleak, and Bleak.  Kate goes off to check with the computers guys about the remaining possible choices.  Capt. Greco comes in George asks if Eve is okay.  He tells George that she alright and that she is still proclaiming her innocence.  Capt. Greco leaves just as Kate comes back in.  She tells George that there is a Bleak House in Nyack.  Kate and George along with Benny and Capt. Greco searches the house only to find Lauren in the downstairs basement tied up and blindfolded.  George asks Lauren some questions about her Kidnappers.  Lauren tells them that Eve was there with two thugs.  Kate and George stop the jail to visit Eve. Kate tells Eve what Lauren said about her being in Nyack.  Eve tells them that she has never been to Nyack and she asks what time she was supposed to have been there. Kate tells her last Wednesday afternoon.  Eve tells them that there was no way she could have been in Nyack at that time because she was performing the matinee showing of “Anything Went”.

The Next Day Kate comes in to find George tied up to a chair. George believes that Lauren used a trick knot to herself up. Kate and George do another round of “What do we know?” George called the port authority to see how long would have taken Eve to Nyack and back.  George finds out that the bus heading into Nyack had broken down in Jersey. The passengers were sent back to New York to board another bus.  They question Lauren again but, she is still sticking with her story.  George notices something when Lauren records a voice message on the Answering Machine.  Outside, George points out that on some answering machines that you have to hold down record button to record a message. Lauren has this type of answering machine.  There is no way a kidnapper would be able to do all the stuff that was on the tape.   Kate and George goes back to visit Eve who is still in Jail.  They play the tape for her again.  Eve realizes that Lauren used a tape from a recorded performance and edited it together.   They go and tell Capt. Greco what they have found out.  Kate and George get a court order to look through the bank records for “Anything Went”.   George looking through the records could only find 2 million in the account.  Mrs. Stood (who somehow has it in her smart-ass head that George is an Idiot.) tells them that the whole 2 million was removed from the account until last Monday (“The day that comes between Sunday and Tuesday.” Please don’t Mrs. Snood! George is not dumb and he smarter than you) when all of it was taken out.  The return to the office to talk with Capt. Greco and He believes that they have strong case against Lauren.  They head to the theatre along with Benny, Eve and Capt. Greco.  Where they confront Lauren on stage by using  a Musical Number!

My Two Cents

Why do I think of Jazz hands when I think of this episodes?  This is a very fun episode.  Once again ,Joe and Bev have proven themselves multi-talented.  The ending is great.  You can tell that Kate and George relationship has grown because Kate climbs across the desk and grabs book.  I found that scene hilarious.  I don’t have that much to say on this.  I love the fact that you see George messing with Lauren because she is rude.  I love stuff like that. I do know that the end sequence was filmed I believe at the Apollo Theater.  I could wrong.

Companion Episode

Next Time

We leave to the world of  Musicals and enter the world of  the top secret government.  When Kate and George lend their services in recovering a top secret drone from the hands of a crime organization.
